WHO WE ARE

From mediation service to a more complete dispute-resolution journey

Middle Ground Solutions was created to provide a practical alternative to disputes moving immediately into lengthy and costly formal proceedings.

Our repositioned approach puts the Dispute Calculator at the centre of that journey. Instead of requiring people to commit to mediation at the outset, the platform gives both parties a structured way to explain what happened, upload relevant documents, identify claims and counterclaims, clarify the outcomes they want and understand the real issues in dispute.

Where a practical settlement is possible, the parties can exchange proposals online and remain in control of the outcome. Where agreement cannot be reached, accredited mediation remains available as the next professional step.

THE DISPUTE CALCULATOR

A structured first step before legal costs escalate

  • Each party can explain their own version of events.
  • Relevant documents can be uploaded in one place.
  • Claims, counterclaims and requested outcomes are organised clearly.
  • Areas of agreement and disagreement can be identified.
  • Settlement proposals can be exchanged online.
  • Mediation remains available when negotiation does not resolve the matter.

The initial process is free. Costs arise only when further negotiation, a formal settlement agreement or mediation is required.

OUR APPROACH

Resolve the dispute before it becomes a legal battle

Middle Ground is built around a simple idea: understand the disagreement clearly, give both sides a fair opportunity to participate and spend money only when additional assistance is actually needed.

START WITHOUT FINANCIAL RISK

Begin free of charge

Registration, submissions, document uploads, the structured dispute summary and the respondent’s first settlement response are free.

HEAR BOTH SIDES

Create clarity

Each party can explain their position, helping to separate common ground from the issues that genuinely need to be resolved.

KEEP CONTROL

Negotiate at your own pace

The parties decide whether to accept a proposal. A solution is not imposed on them by the platform.

ESCALATE WHEN NEEDED

Use professional help intelligently

Accredited mediation is available when online negotiation does not resolve the dispute — not as a compulsory first step.

OUR LEADERSHIP

Alida Badenhorst

Attorney · Notary · Conveyancer · Accredited Mediator

More than 18 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law and civil High Court litigation.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE PROCESS

Practical dispute resolution informed by legal and mediation experience

Alida Badenhorst is a highly experienced attorney, notary, conveyancer and accredited mediator with over 18 years of post-qualification expertise in commercial law and civil High Court litigation.

Skilled in negotiating and drafting complex agreements, Alida has a particular interest in family law, property law and workplace mediation. She is no longer in full-time practice as an attorney and is committed instead to facilitating fair and effective dispute resolution.

Her legal and mediation background supports Middle Ground’s focus on a balanced process: helping parties organise the facts, identify the issues that matter, explore practical settlement and obtain professional mediation where necessary.

OUR MISSION & VALUES

Make early dispute resolution clearer, fairer and more accessible

Our mission is to help individuals, businesses and legal professionals address disputes in a structured way before unnecessary cost and conflict take over — while preserving access to professional mediation and other legal remedies when they are required.

IMPARTIALITY

A balanced process

Middle Ground does not take sides. The process gives each party an opportunity to present their position and consider a negotiated outcome.

CONFIDENTIALITY

A secure environment

Dispute information is intended to remain accessible to the parties and, where mediation is requested, the appointed mediator.

COST-CONSCIOUS RESOLUTION

Pay only when more help is needed

Users can begin, submit information and understand the dispute without an upfront registration fee or a commitment to mediation.

EFFICIENCY

Focus on the real issues

Structured submissions and online proposals reduce fragmented communication and help the parties concentrate on the points that actually need resolution.

TECHNOLOGY WITH A DEFINED ROLE

Technology organises the dispute. It does not decide it.

The platform uses Artificial Intelligence to analyse information submitted by the parties, identify the main issues, distinguish areas of agreement and disagreement and produce a structured summary.

AI does not determine who is right or wrong and does not make legal findings. Its role is to organise information and support a more informed settlement discussion.

AI & OCR

Designed to support informed discussion

OCR technology is used to extract text from uploaded documents. The quality of that extraction depends on the quality of the source material: clearly typed documents generally produce better results than poor scans or difficult handwriting.

The Dispute Calculator is a dispute-management and settlement tool. It is not a replacement for legal advice, judicial decision-making or formal court proceedings.

MEDIATION WHEN NECESSARY

Professional support remains part of the journey

If the parties cannot reach agreement through online negotiation, either party may request mediation. An administrator can assess the matter and appoint an accredited mediator with appropriate experience.

This means users do not have to choose between “technology” and “human support”. They can begin with a structured online process and escalate to professional mediation when the dispute genuinely requires it.
